Tenth anniversary at Schlumberger

Last night we had a banquet honoring my promotion and 10th Schlumberger anniversary, and also other people's promotions and anniversaries. The company took employees and spouses to Smith & Wollensky. Leslie and I both had filet mignon. I received a 10 year pin, and a crystal plaque with my Principal rank on it, and they gave Leslie a bouquet of beautiful fresh flowers. Our human resources manager was over from the UK, and she was just gushing about how happy she was to see all of us accomplish our career milestones.

One guy was celebrating 35 years with the company, he said he was overjoyed that Schlumberger bought the company several years ago, because "finally it's in the hands of an outfit that knows how to make money" (previous owners lost money and ran it into the ground). Amen to that!

Another who just joined but was receiving a special award said that in his previous companies he felt intellectually isolated, but now he feels like he's surrounded by employees of such incredible depth that "the sky's the limit".

The guests were male, female, from America, France, England, Colombia, Egypt. Schlumberger really wins by taking advantage of diversity, and it wins big.

What a great place to work. Moving to Schlumberger (and staying) were the best career decisions I've ever made.
